New library website launched

by Debbie

The Library has launched a new website which has been designed to make it easier for you to find the things you need and reflects the feedback we have received from last year’s student survey, a student focus group and library staff.

The homepage has a simpler design with links to most frequently used pages like the library catalogue, electronic journals and book renewals easily available. The menu headings are clearer and the content has been restructured to make it easier to find.

Look out for the following new features:

New books for the summer

by Debbie

They may be a little bit hard to get to at the moment, due to the single sequence project, but we’re still adding books to the collection! Please see the list below for the latest additions. We’ve changed the format slightly; the location information is now at the bottom of the list, as when the library moves are complete, there will be only one location for each subject number.

As a quick reminder, if you want a book that is currently inaccessible due to the single sequence project, you can request it using the Document Delivery service.

Single sequence – getting hold of books

by Debbie

As we’ve previously blogged, some areas of the Central Library will be off limits while we move things around over the summer. We are unable to fetch books from the collection during these times. However, you can make a request through the Document Delivery service, and we will try to get it for you from another library. Requests made for material which is unobtainable due to the library move will not count towards your annual allowance.

Single sequence update: floor closures in Central Library

by Debbie

The move to single sequence this summer means that we need to close floors to move the books around. We now have indicative dates for floor closures in the Central Library, as follows:

Level 2 : 2nd July – 23rd July

Level 4 : 2nd August – 13th August

Level 5 : 26th July to 6th August

These are expected dates, and may change. Levels 1 & 3 will remain open throughout the moves. Full details of the project (including updates) can be found on the single sequence section of the library website.

If you have any questions, please email Katharine.
