24 hour opening in the Central Library begins on Monday

From Monday 3rd March, the Library will be open 24 hours a day. There are a few exceptions: the Library will close overnight on Fridays, from 23.00-09.30, and the Library will close over Easter, from 17.30 on Thursday 20 March and reopen at 09.30 on Monday 24 March.

Central Library open 24 hours a day

As exams and project deadlines draw ever nearer the Central Library will be opening it’s doors – and keeping them open 24 hours a day.

From Monday 3 March the Central Library will only close on Friday nights at 23.00 and re-open on Saturday mornings at 09.30 to allow for essential cleaning and maintenance work.

The Central Library will also close over the Easter break from 17.30 on Thursday 20 March and will reopen at 09.30 on Monday 24 March.

Issue Desk opening times:
Monday to Friday – 09:00 to 21:00
Saturday – 09:30 to 17:30
Sunday – 12:00 to 17:00
(self-service issue and return will be available outside these hours)


Library staff will be available at the issue desk at the times stated above. Outside these hours security staff will be present and patrol the building at regular intervals.

Although incidents of theft are unusual we do ask that you keep all personal belongings with you and do not leave items of value unattended.

Rules on bringing in food and drink remain the same – bottled water only please!
